FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) When are Tryouts?
Tryouts for the 2010-2011 Travel teams are June 3rd at Fisher Meadows Athletic Complex (Rain date June 8th). Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start time below to register your child at the Pavilion in the main parking lot. We encourage your to use our new online pre-registration to avoid delays on the day of tryouts. Travel team tryouts are open to Avon residents based on the following CJSA guidelines:

Age groupings based on Date of Birth:
3:30pm U14  8/1/1996 to 7/31/1997
4:00pm U13  8/1/1997 to 7/31/1998
4:00pm U12 8/1/1998 to 7/31/1999

5:00pm U11 8/1/1999 to 7/31/2000
5:30pm U10  8/1/2000 to 7/31/2001
5:30pm U9   8/1/2001 to 7/31/2002

2) What do we need for tryouts?
Your child should wear cleats, shind guards, bring a soccer ball and bottled water.

3) Will you have two teams per age group?
It is the intention of ASC to field two (2) teams in each age group based on the number of quality players that attend tryouts.

4) Who will be coaching each team?
Coaches for new teams are not selected until after tryouts. The Coaching Committee will make those selections immediately following the tryout. If you are interested in coaching a team, please submit your soccer resume and copies of any coaching certificates to Art Hennig, 32 Avon Ridge, Avon, CT 06001.

5) How many players will be on each team?
This varies by age group and the needs of each coach. The Head Coach will work closely with ASC to determine the final roster.

6) How is playing time determined?
Playing time is at discretion of coach. Unlike the intramural program, there is no guarantee of equal playing time in the travel program.

7) When are the practices?
There are two practices each week. All practice dates and times will be determined by the coaches. Each coach will communicate prior to the season when practices will be held. Again, the coach will determine which days are best for his/her team.

8) Do we play one or two games each weekend?
In most cases two games are played each weekend. The two games usually consist of one friendly and one league game. (Typically one game is away and one is home).

9) How soon after tryouts will we be notified if our son/daughter has made the team?
You will be notified by phone/e-mail by June 22nd.

10) If my child is not selected to participate in the travel program, will he/she still have the opportunity to play in the intramural program?
Absolutely! An intramural registration form will be sent to you.

11) Should I register my child for the Intramural Program in May/June if he/she will be attending the travel tryouts?
It is not necessary to register for the Intramural Program if your child is definitely attending tryouts. Should your child not be selected, he/she will receive an intramural registration form.
